African American History

Video Summary

African American history is the history of black people in the United States. It begins with the arrival of the first enslaved Africans in the 16th century and continues through the present day. During the colonial era, African Americans were enslaved and denied basic human rights. After the American Revolution, slavery was abolished in northern states but continued in the South until the Civil War. The Civil War ended slavery but did not end racism. African Americans faced segregation, discrimination, and violence. In the 20th century, the civil rights movement won African Americans equal rights under the law. African Americans have made significant contributions to American society in all areas, from music and literature to sports and science.
