Waterproof Boots vs Non-Waterproof Boots

Video Summary

Waterproofing in footwear is meant to prevent water from getting into the boot, but it does not allow water to be removed out of the boot. Whether to go with waterproof or non-waterproof footwear depends on the climate and terrain. In dry areas, non-waterproof footwear is more effective as it allows more breathability and drainage. In moist areas, waterproof footwear is more effective as it keeps the feet dry. If you are going to be constantly in submerged water, you should not get a waterproof boot as it will not drain and will cause problems. Choosing the correct footwear between waterproof and non-waterproof can make or break your hiking experience.
